Choose the lake before the itinerary
Skaneateles offers a polished village experience, Cayuga and Seneca provide longer cruising routes, and the smaller lakes favor relaxed day boating. Match the water to your boat and available time.
Watch the wind
Long, narrow lakes can develop steep chop quickly. Review wind direction as carefully as wind speed, particularly when your return route runs the length of the lake.
Keep the weekend simple
Plan one waterfront meal, one swim or anchoring stop and one land-based activity. Confirm dock access rather than assuming a shoreline business is reachable by boat.
