A boat-trailer tongue jack has a narrow job: raise and lower the coupler without exceeding the jack, bracket or trailer limits. It is not a parking brake, a service stand or a license to move a loaded trailer across a slope. Selection begins with measured tongue load, then moves through mounting geometry, lift range, surface and corrosion exposure. That sequence matters because a high-capacity jack that cannot retract above the road, reach the hitch or fit the frame is still the wrong jack.
