A boat trailer changes security states. It may sit uncoupled in a driveway, remain attached at a hotel, wait in a public launch lot or spend months in storage. A single lock rarely protects every interface. Build a system around the exact coupler, hitch receiver, wheel, parking surface and storage rules, then add identification and records that still matter if the hardware is defeated. Security claims should be treated as manufacturer claims—not proof that a lock is invulnerable.
Start with the way the trailer will actually be parked
Write down the normal states: unhitched at home, hitched during travel stops, empty at the ramp and stored for winter. The exposed interface changes each time. An unhitched coupler can be placed on another ball or improvised connection; a connected drawbar can be removed from an unlocked receiver; a trailer with a locked tongue can still be moved if a thief defeats the wheel or lifts the front.
Photograph the coupler from every side and record the manufacturer, model, ball size, latch style, lip shape and safety-chain geometry. A wheel clamp creates an independent problem
Compare boat-trailer wheel clamps on Amazon by tire width and diameter, wheel opening, fender and brake clearance, lock protection, visibility and storage size. A clamp should install without contacting brake hoses, calipers, valve stems or fragile trim.
A wheel device is useful because it attacks movement rather than the coupler interface. It still is not a parking brake, wheel chock or jack stand. Chock and stabilize the trailer under the trailer manufacturer's procedure. Remove the clamp before towing and use a bright reminder that cannot become loose road debris.
Do not tow with storage-only security hardware installed
